The Five Essential Design Principles

  1   Balance

Balance creates visual stability in your designs. Symmetrical balance weights elements evenly on either side, while asymmetrical balance uses contrast to even out the flow. Think of a welcome poster where your school logo on the left balances a colorful text block on the right.

Good Balance:

A poster with the school logo subtly placed on the top left.

On the right side, the text "The Sound of Music" is large and elegant, balanced by the smaller, clearly readable dates and ticket information below it, creating a pleasing visual flow.

Bad Balance:

A poster where the school logo is a massive, dominant graphic taking up the entire left half.

The musical title and details are crammed into a tiny corner on the right, making the poster feel overwhelmingly heavy on one side and visually unstable.
