  4   Proximity

Proximity groups related information together. When elements belong together conceptually, place them close together visually. Your school name should sit near your logo, not scattered across the page.

Two fliers with the same information: "PTO Meeting, Date, Time and Location"

Good Proximity:

A flyer for the PTO meeting where the title "PTO Meeting" is at the top. Directly below it, grouped together, are "Date: Tuesday, October 25th," "Time: 6:30 PM," and "Location: School Library." A separate, smaller paragraph at the bottom encourages participation: "Bring your ideas!" This clear grouping makes it easy to grasp all the essential details for the meeting.

Bad Proximity:

A flyer for the PTO meeting where "PTO Meeting" is at the top. The "Date: Tuesday, October 25th" is at the bottom left. "Time: 6:30 PM" and "Location: School Library" are in the middle. The encouraging note "Bring your ideas!" is squeezed between the other elements. The scattered information forces the reader's eye to jump around the page to find all the relevant details for the meeting.
